Mamelodi Sundowns continued their strong start to the Betway Premiership season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Siwelele FC at Loftus Versfeld last night.

The result strengthened Sundowns’ position at the top of the league table, moving the defending champions six points clear of second-placed Orlando Pirates, although Sundowns have played two more matches. The victory also extended their unbeaten league run this season.
Siwelele held firm in the first half
Despite Sundowns controlling much of the possession and territory, Siwelele frustrated the hosts during the opening 45 minutes.
The visitors, playing their first match under caretaker coach Godfrey Mosoetsa following Lehlohonolo Seema’s departure, defended in numbers and restricted Sundowns to limited clear-cut opportunities. The two sides went into halftime level at 0-0.
Sundowns dominated possession, with reports indicating that Miguel Cardoso’s side enjoyed around 71% of the ball in the first half. However, they were unable to turn their control into a goal before the break.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 58th minute, with a long-range effort from Teboho Mokoena being tipped onto the crossbar by Siwelele goalkeeper Mthombeni, with Kutlwano Letlhaku reacting quickest to the rebound and turning it into the net.
The goal changed the complexion of the match, forcing Siwelele to open as they searched for an equaliser.

Mamelodi Sundowns extend their winning run
The victory marked Sundowns’ fifth consecutive win in all competitions, while they remain unbeaten in seven Betway Premiership matches this season.
Their remarkable home record also continued, with the champions extending their unbeaten league run at Loftus Versfeld to 33 matches.
According to The Citizen, for Siwelele, the defeat extended a difficult run of results. The side remain without a win after their opening league matches and face a challenging battle to climb away from the bottom end of the table.
Sundowns will next travel to face Chippa United on 12 September 2026, while Siwelele are scheduled to host Golden Arrows on 13 September 2026.
