The news has sparked excitement and some debate among fans of the long-running SABC1 soapie, with Ferguson’s character having become one of the most recognisable figures in the show’s history. Details surrounding the length and nature of her latest appearance have not yet been confirmed, reports Briefly News. It remains unclear whether this will be a short guest appearance or a more permanent return.

A familiar face returns

Ferguson’s relationship with Generations stretches back decades. She originally joined the soapie in 1993, playing Karabo Moroka and becoming one of its most prominent stars.

This comes just a couple of days after Khethiwe Buthelezi, played by Winnie Ntshaba, returned to the soapie.

She first departed the programme in 2010 after 16 years before returning in 2014 as part of the launch of Generations: The Legacy. She subsequently left again in 2016, only to return in 2017 for another storyline and again in 2023 with fellow co-star Tau Mogale.

Karabo’s importance to Generations is difficult to separate from Ferguson’s own legacy on the programme.

When Ferguson returned in 2016, News24 reported that the actress described the storyline as a short arc intended to tie up loose ends.

Will Karabo stay?

For now, one of the biggest unanswered questions is how long viewers will get to see Karabo this time around. The latest report does not confirm whether Ferguson’s appearance will be temporary or whether she will join the cast on a longer-term basis.

For fans, however, the prospect of seeing Karabo Moroka back on their screens is likely to generate considerable interest.
