South African international Thapelo Maseko has completed his move to Danish giants FC Copenhagen, signing a four-year contract after leaving Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Danish club officially announced the 22-year-old winger’s arrival earlier today, confirming that Maseko has committed his future to the club until 2030.

Maseko arrives in Copenhagen after a turbulent spell at Sundowns, where opportunities in the first team became limited.
He had spent the first half of 2026 on loan at Cypriot side AEL Limassol, making 15 appearances and contributing two goals and an assist before returning to South Africa.

Thapelo Maseko speaks about his move
Maseko told FC Copenhagen in an interview, “I am very proud of this agreement. It is a dream come true. To me, FC Copenhagen is a very special club.
“This is a club that is highly recognised internationally. I am looking forward to experiencing it all myself.”
The soccer star added, “I am truly honoured to get this opportunity, and it fills me with hunger and ambition. I have come here to make a difference and leave my mark on the club.”
First match for the team
FC Copenhagen is set to play a two-legged UEFA Conference League playoff tie against Finland’s Inter Turku on 20 and 27 August. They have started the Danish Superliga season with three wins on the trot.
FC Copenhagen will hope the South African’s pace, directness and ability to play on both wings can add another dimension to their attack as they compete domestically and on the European stage.
Head coach Bo Svensson shared: “In Thapelo, we get an explosive, dynamic player with exceptional qualities in direct, 1-on-1 situations. His pace and ability to challenge his direct opponent will make him a constant threat in behind, but he can also use his left foot to assist teammates when cutting inside.”
