Reagan Collis appeared in court on Wednesday facing four murder charges, five counts of attempted murder, two robbery charges and firearms-related offences following a deadly attack in Reiger Park, Ekurhuleni, last Friday.

The case has drawn attention to alleged gang violence and concerns around repeat offending after Reagan was reportedly already out on bail in connection with previous murder cases.
Four people killed in attack
The charges stem from an attack that claimed the lives of two members of the South African Police Service’s anti-gang unit, Constable Thapelo Tlomatsana and Constable Siphiwe Sibeko.
Two other victims, Jaydin Magerman and Rolene Lessing, were also killed in the incident.
The attack has heightened concerns about violence in Ekurhuleni and the dangers faced by police officers involved in efforts to combat gang activity.
Reagan now faces four murder charges relating to the deaths, as well as five counts of attempted murder.

Arrest follows multi-agency operation
Following the shooting, law enforcement agencies launched a multi-agency operation to track down those allegedly responsible.
Reagan was arrested during the operation, with authorities recovering two R5 rifles in Germiston. The recovery of the firearms forms part of the state’s case against the accused and has added a further firearms-related dimension to the matter.
Police have indicated that the investigation remains ongoing, with the possibility of additional arrests as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack.

Concerns over repeat offending
The case has also raised questions about repeat offending, particularly because Reagan was reportedly already out on bail in connection with previous murder cases.
His appearance has therefore placed renewed focus on the challenges facing the criminal justice system in dealing with suspects accused of serious and violent offences while on bail.
However, the allegations against Reagan have yet to be tested in court, and he remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Following his court appearance, Reagan was remanded in custody. His next major court appearance is scheduled for 25 August 2026, when his bail application is expected to be heard. The upcoming bail proceedings will determine whether he remains behind bars while the case progresses or whether the court grants him release under conditions.
Police vow to target gang networks
The case comes amid continued efforts by police and other law enforcement agencies to tackle organised and gang-related violence in the region.
Authorities have vowed to dismantle criminal networks involved in violent activity and have indicated that the investigation into the Ekurhuleni attack is not over.
With further arrests possible, investigators are expected to continue examining the alleged links between the accused, the firearms recovered and the wider criminal network.
For the families of the four people killed, however, the court proceedings represent the beginning of a long journey towards justice.
Reagan remains in custody pending his bail hearing on 25 August 2026, as the investigation into the deadly Ekurhuleni attack continues.
