Her eKhaya Hospitality brand and immersive dining experiences celebrate South Africa’s diverse culinary heritage while highlighting the connection between food, culture and tourism. This approach has helped position gastronomy as an important driver of travel experiences and destination marketing.

Why this recognition matters

Culinary tourism continues to grow globally, with travellers increasingly seeking authentic food experiences that reflect a destination’s culture and identity. Maseko’s recognition shines a spotlight not only on her personal achievements but also on the growing influence of South African chefs in shaping Africa’s tourism narrative.

For South Africa, honours such as the TOHO100 reinforce the country’s reputation as a leading culinary destination while recognising the people using food to create economic opportunities, preserve heritage and inspire global travellers.

As African cuisine continues to gain international recognition, Lorna Maseko’s latest accolade reflects the power of hospitality, storytelling and cultural authenticity in putting South Africa firmly on the global culinary map.
