Preparations for veteran actor Seputla Sebogodi’s final resting place are far from smooth sailing, as it has been reported that the late star’s wife of six months and his family are at loggerheads over his burial site.

Seputla died on 15 July 2026 at 63 years old following diabetes-related complications. BONA previously reported that the first memorial service will take place on Wednesday, 22 July, at the State Theatre in Pretoria. A second one is scheduled for Friday, 24 July, at Jack Botes Hall in Polokwane.
Seputla Sebogodi’s burial site causes family drama
According to MDN News, the actor was born in Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria, but his ancestral home is in Ga-Mothapo, east of Polokwane. While his family wants him buried in Ga-Mothapo, his widow, Machuene Rosina Semenya, allegedly prefers to have her late husband laid to rest at Silicon Cemetery in Polokwane.
The family allegedly contended that the decision about the actor’s final resting place should not rest with Machuene, citing the fact that she had never visited his ancestral home.
The above-mentioned publication adds that Seputla’s older sister Mary was devastated upon hearing about the change of plans, standing firm in her belief that her brother should be buried where he is intended.

South Africans split over alleged burial site quarrel
Many local social media users and fans of the late actor shared who they supported. Some people believed that the spouse should have the final decision, while others sided with the family members.
@Vongani_B told the online community, “As long as they are married, whether it’s six days or 6=six months. Wife has a final say. His family must just support his wife. Fighting won’t solve anything.”
@WankersZa shared their opinion, adding, “Silicon is far from everything and hard to access via public transport, so that must be borne in mind for relatives who don’t have a car. It might be easier for all concerned to have him buried where family can clean his gravesite and visit.”
“Yeses, this is painful. Wife has a final say unfortunately, but I feel for the family. This could be solved with a will,” said @indunaX.
