While Argentina enters the match as the clear favourite, Egypt has already shown that resilience and belief can carry a team further than many expected.

Argentina remains the favourite

As defending world champions, Argentina possesses one of the tournament’s strongest squads. Led by Lionel Messi, the South Americans have combined attacking flair with big-game experience throughout the competition.

Even after surviving a difficult previous knockout match, Argentina remains widely tipped to reach the quarterfinals, and Messi continues to be the heartbeat of the team.

Egypt has nothing to lose

Egypt enters the contest as the underdog, but that could work in its favour. The Egyptian team have exceeded expectations to reach the knockout stage and has displayed discipline, defensive organisation, and mental toughness throughout the tournament. Mohamed Salah remains Egypt’s biggest attacking weapon. His pace, creativity, and finishing ability mean Argentina cannot afford to give him space on the counterattack.
