Mamelodi Sundowns were unable to open a six-point lead at the top of the Betway Premiership after losing 3-2 to TS Galaxy in their final game of the season last night.

Masandawana concluded their campaign with the title on the line and came into the encounter in fine scoring form after a dramatic 7-4 victory over Siwelele FC. Meanwhile, Galaxy aimed to end its 11-game winless streak in the league.
Sundowns, who should’ve got off to the perfect start in the first minute when a defensive mix-up by Mlungisi Mbunjana gifted Arthur Sales a clear one-on-one opening, but brave goalkeeping from Ira Tape denied the Brazilian forward.
Early goals from Victor Letsoalo and Sedwyn George saw Bernard Parker’s TS Galaxy side race into a 2-0 lead before Masandawana hit back with a quick-fire brace from Bryan Leon ahead of the interval.

But Mpho Mvelase fired the Rockets back in front seconds after the restart of the second half, and they held on to bring an end to Sundowns’ run in the league and put a major dent in their title hopes.
Orlando Pirates are now favourites to win the South African Premiership for the first time since 2012. Sundowns finished the season with 68 points from 30 matches. Pirates have 65 with two matches to play and boast a superior goal difference.
