The South African entertainment industry is in mourning following reports that rising Lekompo artist Mpho Eric Ngoepe, popularly known as Nova Dzaii (The Black Ninja), has passed away in a tragic car accident.

According to entertainment reports published on Monday, the news was confirmed by the artist’s management who issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over his sudden passing.

The crash reportedly occurred on Saturday night, May 9, while the musician was travelling back from Gauteng after promoting his latest music release. Details surrounding the exact circumstances of the accident are still emerging.

His management described Nova Dzaii as a passionate and talented performer who had quickly built a name for himself in the growing Lekompo music scene, known for his energetic sound and street-driven appeal.

“He was more than just an artist – he was family,” the statement reportedly read as tributes began pouring in from fans and fellow musicians.

The news has sparked an outpouring of grief on social media, with many fans expressing shock at the loss of yet another young artist in the Limpopo music community. His passing also adds to a troubling pattern of tragedies affecting artists in the genre over recent months.

X (formerly Twitter) users weighed in:

Are we sure no one is killing these Lekompo artists?Too many are dng way too soon.

What if this Lekompo genre is satanic or demonic and artists sell their souls in exchange for quick fame and cash but have to pay thee ultimate price when the owner of their soul feels like it?

Stop insinuating the dark cloud , artists require drivers when they travel to their respective gigs , some drive drunk and recklessly. It’s a basic human principle and a South African law , if they can simply adhere to such , they’ll spare their lives.

Authorities have not yet released full details regarding the cause of the crash, and investigations are expected to continue. Funeral and memorial arrangements are expected to be announced once the family has gathered further details.
