South Africa’s Autumn markets worth planning a weekend around

Autumn marks the start of harvest season in many parts of South Africa, and markets begin to reflect the shift in the seasons, writes Miriam Kimvangu.

They are places where communities gather around food, music and craft and where visitors can experience the personality of a region in a single morning.

Western Cape

The Western Cape is home to some of South Africa’s most established and scenic markets, many set against vineyards, mountains or ocean views.

Every Saturday

  • Oranjezicht City Farm Market
    A produce-first market celebrating local farms with fresh vegetables, artisanal breads and seasonal treats.
  • Wild Oats Community Farmers Market
    A long-running Garden Route favourite known for its excellent farmers stalls and early-morning buzz.
