‘Back where it all began’ – Crown Gospel Awards return to Durban

by Sergio Miller

The 18th edition of the Crown Gospel Awards is scheduled to return to Durban.

The Durbanites have recently been deprived of attending the live event since it was previously hosted in Gauteng for two consecutive years.

Organisers of the event recently expressed excitement ahead of the return to the birthplace of the award ceremony and urged fans to come out in their numbers to support local talent.

In conversation with Citizen News, Pastor S’thembiso Mtshali, the official spokesperson of the event, added:

“We are excited to be back where it all began, and we call upon the public to secure their seats early for what promises to be the biggest gospel gathering in Africa.”

The event is an annual one that shines a light on excellence in African gospel music, saluting artists for their contributions. It was first founded by the late Zanele Mbokazi, and it has gone on to play an integral role in celebrating local talent in the music industry.

Zanele sadly passed away in August 2024 after being diagnosed with lung cancer.

With its return to Durban, the event will now reflect on her success by honouring her legacy in a tribute.

“This year will be a heartfelt tribute to her memory as we celebrate in her beloved city of Durban,” said pastor S’thembiso. “We know she’s smiling down as we keep her dream alive.”

The 18th edition of the awards takes place on 23 November at the Durban ICC Convention Centre.
