2024 was an exciting year for the local entertainment industry, particularly in film as we saw various TV shows to cater to our diverse population. As the year draws to a close, here is a list of shows to catch up on before you start 2025.

South Africa’s film industry has shown great improvements in various aspects, such as storytelling, quality of production, finding and developing talent, and finding a great balance between familiar faces and new and upcoming talent.

If you love to keep your eyes glued to the screen with entertaining shows, or you are potentially looking to get into watching more TV next year, we have curated a list of must-watch shows that you will need to be caught up on when you start binging or tuning in next year.

Whether you are a fan of messy reality TV, a binge that will keep you on the edge of your seat, or something fun and light-hearted to keep you company while you do your chores, this list will have something for you.

This fan-favourite coming-of-age telenovela is a must-watch TV, it follows a young teenager who is navigating life in boarding school after fleeing KZN following a family tragedy.

Chasing the Sun 1 & 2

If you haven’t watched these historic documentaries, you have to get to it ASAP! Whether you are a sports fan or not, this documentary is sure to pull on your heartstrings as it follows the Springboks through their journey towards obtaining back-to-back Rugby World Cups.

Skeem Saam

This Turfloop-based soapie is another fan-favourite that has become an integral part of South African culture and entertainment. The Turfloop bunch has become like friends that we have kept up with from high school all the way through adulthood. It is never too late to tune in, you won’t miss a beat.

Love never lies

This chaotic and enticing reality dating show has recently made headlines and caused a buzz on social media as it reached international waters, with viewers commending the consistent quality of mzansi reality TV. Watchers continually raved about Minnie Dlamini’s impressive hosting abilities as she was able to get all the juicy stuff that we all tune in for.
