Life as a professional footballer is one that typically comprises having flashy jewellery, fast cars, and living life at its best. Still, former soccer star Reneilwe Letsholonyane has taken it upon himself to warn current players to start making smart decisions when it comes to their lifestyle.
For years Reneilwe was one of South Africa’s top talents and built himself quite a reputation as being a fearless contender when it comes to showing his worth on the football field.
He was also part of a start-studded Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs team, playing alongside several veterans as likes of Itumeleng Khune, Simphiwe Tshabalala and Teko Modise – all of whom featured in the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa.
With 20 years of experience and learning from his own mistakes the former footballer affectionately known as Yeye has now encouraged the current generation of professional stars to start investing in themselves while they are still relevant.
In an interview with news and entertainment publication Daily Sun, said that becoming a professional athlete shouldn’t be the end goal, instead, players should always seek ways to improve themselves.
“You must maintain and empower yourself. Know where you want to go, and once there, continue to improve and maintain your position,” he said.
Earlier this year it was reported that Yeye had been going through financial challenges following allegations that he skipped his house payments, however, he later clarified to City Press that he was not ignoring the bank but that he was trying to sell his property.
The retired sportsman recently made his appearance on Celebrity MasterChef where he described it as the ideal opportunity to test himself and his abilities.
