A video shared on social media has stirred reactions, as one woman bid an emotional farewell to her roommate, who was forced to leave due to an unfortunate academic setback. The roommate didn’t qualify for the upcoming exams, a consequence that led her to pack up her belongings and return home.

In a TikTok video shared by @vuthlari.ngobenii, viewers witness the camera pans across the room, and the reality of the situation becomes even more evident. One side of the room is messy, with items packed hastily on the bed as the departing student gathers all that belongs to her.

Taking to the comments, social media users expressed a range of reactions. Many offered their sympathy, with one commenter writing, “It is so painful. She will come again in the coming year.”

Another added, “When you start realising that one nerd friend who used to tell you to study with them were right!”

However, some viewers took a different angle, finding motivation in the video:

” Let me get up and study,” wrote one user.

Meanwhile, other users joked that the departing roommate should leave behind her groceries as a parting gift.

One user wrote, “Iyaphi grocer iyaphi nje (where is the grocer going)

Another said,  “Tshela lomuntu ahambe ashiye ukudla uzokwazi ukuthenga umswenko ngeyakho (tell this person to go and leave the food so that you can buy swag with yours).
