Leading the way with the most nominations was Joburg-born amapiano artist Tyla, who secured herself five nominations ahead of this year’s award ceremony. This has been a successful year for the 22-year-old singer as she continues to drop hits that captivate both local and international audiences while staying authentic to her roots.

Over the last few months, the singer has won both a Grammy Award, and BET Award as well as an MTV Video Music Award in the category of Afropop.

At this year’s SAMAs, her list of nominations includes Album of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Best Pop Album of the Year as well as Best Collaboration of the Year.

Meanwhile, Nhlanhla Sibisi, CEO of the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) has said that the nominees showcase the diversity, creativity and talent we have in this country.

“I am truly humbled by the exceptional talent and dedication behind the music that has earned nominations this year. To each nominee, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations.”

The awards ceremony is set to take place in November.
