Home remedies to curing chapped lips

When it comes to our outward appearance many of us spend several amounts of time and attention to ensuring that we are well groomed and in good health so that we present the best possible versions of ourselves to the outside world.

This usually means purchasing the best products for our skincare routine and spending lots of time either committing to a gym membership or following a strict diet plan to get that dream body you have always wanted.

In the midst of all of this, one thing that many of us often fail to pay enough attention to is right in front of our noses – literally.

These are our lips; a large percentage of the human population is prone to experiencing a phase of their lives of having to endure the feeling of chapped lips.

The health and wellness medical information hub, Cleveland Clinic, defines this term as being, “the result of dry, cracked skin on your lips often due to cold or dry weather, sun exposure, frequently licking your lips or dehydration.”

While many may opt to peel off the dead skin that creates a rough texture on the surface of their lips, it is best that you abstain from doing so.

According to Gisou, this could accidentally cause you to peel too much skin and ultimately cause more damage, causing it to take much longer to heal.

Here are a few useful solutions you can try to have them cured as instructed by Medical News Today:

Use a good lip balm

According to the above-mentioned publication, many lip balms include ingredients like menthol, camphor and phenol, the result of which causes one’s lips to dry out instead, it is recommended that you use one with soothing ingredients like petroleum, lanolin, beeswax and ceramides.

Natural remedies

There are several natural remedies that contain healing properties that have a positive effect on one’s lips. These include aloe vera, coconut oil honey as well as cucumber.

Exfoliate lips

It is said that because chapped lips contain a layer of dead skin. It can be difficult for the balm to do its magic, exfoliating one’s lips is therefore a good way to solve this issue.

“People use lip scrubs that contain sugar or baking soda to gently exfoliate away this dry skin,” explains the health publication.

Hydrate

One of the reasons for dry lips is due to dehydration. It is for this reason that drinking water should become your daily habit.
