Internet celebrates Bheki Cele being axed as minister of police

by Sergio Miller

With the 2024 National Elections outcomes having been finalised, it appears that the parliamentary benches will soon be cleared. Many ministers who previously visited the legislative building in the colours of the African Nation Congress (ANC) are to be removed; among them is Minister of Police Bheki Cele.

The news comes after the ruling party saw a 17% drop when it comes to their national support, currently standing at a mere 40.1 %. This resulted in them missing out on winning the elections by an outright majority as opposed to previous elections.

This will see a cut in ANC representation in Parliament, and with news publication Daily Maverick reporting that Bheki Cele is among those names, there is nobody happier than South African citizens.

Taking to social media, many shared messages of jubilation, with some even going as far as providing him with recommendations on how to manage his life now that he will be unemployed.

“Bheki Cele is no longer minister of police? This calls for a celebration,” wrote one user, while others tagged along in the comment section.

Let’s pop some champagne, there’s a reason Zuma fired him inntje first place ??‍♀️??‍♀️

Meanwhile, others have cautioned people not to get too excited, as the President may still select two MPs to join the National Assembly.

The president is allowed to bring in 2 non MP’s as ministers. Maybe…just maybe that’s where the strategy is. pic.twitter.com/BYykFTiYU4

According to the Daily Maverick, other ministers who did not make the cut include International Relations Minister Naledi Pandor, Defence Minister Thandi Modise, and Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu.
