Many people have different ways of expressing themselves after a loved one has passed. For rapper Nadia Nakai, she chose to convey her feelings through the one thing she knows best – music.

Nadia reportedly started dating the late rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes in 2021. The couple kept their relationship out of the public eye until making their union ‘Instagram official’ in March 2022. Sadly, in February 2023, their relationship unfortunately came to an end when AKA was gunned down outside the restaurant Wish on Florida Road in Durban alongside his friend and celebrity chef, Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane.

Since AKA’s death, the rest of the year has been an emotional one for Nadia. As a way to heal, the rapper shared on Instagram that what was initially a tribute EP has now turned into a tribute album for her late boyfriend.

“I have soooo much to say. It is almost done,” she wrote. “I’m so grateful I have music to express myself.”

Nadia continued, “This album is honestly not for you, it’s for me, in my road to healing (whatever that looks like), my letter to him ?this is powerful, this is spiritual. THANK YOU to everyone who just gets it, supported it, and showed up! I wish I could drop this tomorrow.”

Nadia’s announcement of her upcoming tribute project received love and support from AKA’s parents and her fans:

“We ? you,” wrote AKA’s mother Lynn Forbes, while his father Tony Forbes shared a few hearts of his own.

Singer Simz Ngema commented, “I can feel the emotions through these photos ❤️.”

While a fan said, “❤️❤️❤️ We’re here for you! Like you always said, he loved loudly. Honour him loudly.”
