The reason for the Burna Boy Johannesburg concert cancellation has been revealed. According to reports, the former CEO of the company organising the concert has allegedly been accused of stealing a whopping R10 million from the company.
The accused in question is Sedote Nwachukwu from the entertainment company Ternary Media Group who has since been relieved from his responsibilities until further notice.
SowetanLIVE obtained a police statement from Sandton police station containing details of the alleged fraud case which was opened by Sedote’s business partner Gregory Wings.
The statement read that a week before the concert, Gregory met with a Ticketpro official, only to realise that more than R8,179,263.00 was allegedly transferred to Sedote’s American bank account.
“The account verification document was issued to me, and to my surprise, the whole money was transferred to my business partner’s [Sedote] account without my consent.”
According to the above-mentioned publication, Sedote was responsible for organising the highly-anticipated concert which was set to take place on Saturday, 23 September at the FNB stadium. However, due to pending legal proceedings, the event has been postponed to 16 December.
Previously, it was reported that the concert was cancelled due to poor ticket sales. Per SowetanLIVE, Ternary Media Group spokesperson Kymoni Jackson provided more insight on the cancellation, alleging, “he [Sedote] stole R10 million, that’s why we had to call it off. He lied to everyone that was part of the event and his investor Gregory. We are willing to refund people, however, tickets are still valid for the next show. Burna Boy was very excited to come [to South Africa] but we had to deal with this internal issue of Mr Nwachuku [first]…”
The entertainment company has also provided a statement on their website.
