Hot Young Designers

Art & Design Saturday at Keyes Art Mile in Rosebank, Johannesburg has partnered with Nando’s to host an exhibition featuring entrants from their competition. By Fundiswa Nkwanyana

The selected finalists and their designs will be featured in a major installation at Keyes Art Mile. This exhibition will showcase fabric printed pattern designs from the top 10 finalists.

Some of the designers share the inspiration behind their pattern designs that will be part of the exhibition.

Kamogelo Samkelo Mthunzi

Nature inspires me a lot and I always look around when commuting in a taxi. This design was inspired by fish patterns and the colors of the South African flag.

Ditiro Mashigo

With these pieces my focus was biomimicry; my objective was to create patterns that mimic the behavior of plants, water and animal print.

Agrippa Mncedisi Hlophe

This is hand drawn pattern represents growth, equality and the ability to stay strong and believe in ones dreams.

Bonolo Helen Chepape

From a glance my pattern looks like a celebration of colour, triangles and lines but in closer inspection the pattern symbolizes the connection that people share with food.

This exhibition runs from 20 October until 8 November 2018 at the Keyes Art Mile precinct.
