PSL reveals MTN8 quarter-final schedule

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has officially confirmed the dates, venues and kick-off times for the opening round of the 2026/27 MTN8 competition, with four blockbuster quarter-final clashes set to take place this weekend, 8 August 2026. 

Defending champions Orlando Pirates will begin their quest for an unprecedented fifth consecutive MTN8 title when they host newly promoted Durban City at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

Jose Riveiro’s former side, now under new leadership, will aim to continue their dominance in South Africa’s premier top eight knockout competition. 

Also on Saturday, Mamelodi Sundowns will welcome Polokwane City in what promises to be another entertaining encounter as Miguel Cardoso’s side looks to kick off their MTN8 campaign on a winning note. 

Sunday’s action will see Kaizer Chiefs take on Golden Arrows as Amakhosi look to make an early statement in the new season, while AmaZulu FC will host Sekhukhune United in the final quarter-final fixture.

Saturday the 8th of August

  • Orlando Pirates vs Durban City 
  • Mamelodi Sundowns vs Polokwane City 

Sunday the 9th of August

  • Kaizer Chiefs vs Golden Arrows
  • AmaZulu FC vs Sekhukhune United

The MTN8 once again features the top eight teams from last season’s Betway Premiership campaign, with the winner set to claim one of South African football’s most prestigious knockout trophies. 

The PSL is also expected to officially launch this year’s MTN8 tournament on Wednesday, where participating clubs and sponsors will gather ahead of the competition’s opening weekend.
