It was a dramatic Sunday in the Premier League as Manchester United surged into third place with a confident win over Aston Villa, while Tottenham kept their survival hopes alive with a dramatic late equaliser against Liverpool at Anfield.

The results reshaped the battle near the top of the table and the fight to stay clear of relegation as the season heads into its final stretch.

United step up at Old Trafford

Manchester United delivered a strong second-half performance to defeat Aston Villa 3-1 at Old Trafford and move into third place on the Premier League standings.

The breakthrough came shortly after the restart when Casemiro rose highest to meet Bruno Fernandes’ corner in the 53rd minute. The Brazilian midfielder powered his header past Emiliano Martinez to give the home side a deserved lead.

Villa responded with determination and found an equaliser just over ten minutes later. Ross Barkley fired home in the 64th minute after a quick attacking move that briefly silenced the Old Trafford crowd.

United, however, were quick to regain control.

Matheus Cunha restored the lead after being played through by Fernandes and calmly placed his effort into the corner. Substitute Benjamin Sesko then wrapped up the victory late in the match after a sequence of deflections allowed him to guide the ball over the line with nine minutes remaining.

The win lifts Michael Carrick’s side to 54 points from 30 games, pushing them ahead of Aston Villa into third place. Villa now sit fourth on 51 points.

Carrick also reached a personal milestone, becoming only the fourth manager in Premier League history to win his first six home games in charge.

Elsewhere, Tottenham produced a dramatic late moment to secure a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield.

Dominik Szoboszlai had given the home side the advantage after 18 minutes with a superb free kick that beat Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Liverpool looked comfortable for much of the match, creating several opportunities to extend their lead. Cody Gakpo struck the upright during the first half and Ryan Gravenberch also went close after a strong individual run.

Tottenham struggled to create clear chances for long periods, although Richarlison missed a promising opportunity with a header just before half-time.

Richarlison delivers when it matters

The Brazilian striker remained involved throughout the second half and eventually made his moment count.

Richarlison saw two efforts denied by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, including a powerful strike from distance and a close-range chance that required an excellent save.

With the match entering the final minute of normal time, Tottenham finally found the breakthrough.

Substitute Randal Kolo Muani created the opportunity with a clever pass inside the box, and Richarlison kept his composure to slot the ball into the bottom corner for a dramatic equaliser.

The late goal gives Tottenham a valuable point as they continue to fight against relegation.

Spurs remain in 16th place with 30 points from 30 matches, just one point above West Ham in the drop zone. Liverpool, meanwhile, stay fifth on 49 points after missing the chance to climb into the top four.

With the Premier League season entering its final weeks, both the race for European places and the battle to avoid relegation remain wide open.
