Police have confirmed the discovery of the body of a seventh woman in Gauteng’s East Rand as investigators work to establish whether a series of killings across the region are connected.

The woman, believed to be in her 20s, was reportedly found in Kwa-Thema on Tuesday, 15 September. Police are investigating whether the cases could be linked to one perpetrator or involve multiple suspects. The first woman found in Kempton Park in July has already been linked to her boyfriend, who is in custody.
The growing number of cases has prompted a heightened police response. Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia and Acting National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane are meeting with investigators to receive an update on the evidence and progress of the probe.

Two of the victims have so far been identified. One of them is Elizabeth ‘Tsontso’ Moselakgomo, who was reported missing after leaving for a run on Wednesday, 9 September. Her eight-year-old daughter raised the alarm when she failed to return.
Moselakgomo’s badly beaten body was discovered on Saturday, with her family later positively identifying her on Monday, 14 September. Her death has added another deeply personal dimension to an investigation already involving several families searching for answers. Authorities are yet to determine whether her murder is connected to the other cases.
