Reasons your sex drive decreases after childbirth

Numerous causes, including postpartum depression and drastic hormonal changes, might cause new moms’ sex drive to diminish.

Having a low sex drive after giving birth is totally normal. Giving birth to a new life is a phenomenal experience, which can also deprive you of sexual intimacy.

Many couples find it difficult to gradually get back into bed after having a child (apart from getting some well-deserved sleep.)

It’s very typical for one’s libido to decline after giving birth. According to a study, many women reported significant changes in their intimacy within their relationships.

Although there isn’t a specific period of time for getting back to being intimate with your partner, many medical professionals advise waiting four to six weeks. Whether you had a vaginal delivery or a C-section, your body needs time to recuperate.

That said, here’s why your sex drive can decrease after childbirth:

 Hormonal changes

During the postpartum period, you could feel unbalanced due to significant hormonal changes. This is particularly valid if you’re nursing. Oestrogen production declines while nursing, which may cause dryness in the vagina. Although using lubrication will assist in reducing any physical discomfort, that may make you feel as though you aren’t physically prepared for sex.

You are exhausted

The enormous exhaustion that frequently comes along with caring for a newborn must be balanced out first with your sex drive. Baby demands are high. It might be physically and emotionally taxing to provide them with the constant attention and physical contact they need. Having sex may not be a top priority when you finally have some time to yourself because you need to take a break from the deep physical bond.

Postnatal depression

A lot of women experience postpartum depression.

After giving birth, stress, anxiety, and weariness can have a negative impact on a woman’s mental health, which can cause her to lose her desire for sex.

It’s normal for women to experience decreased libido after giving birth to a baby. But engaging in self care will help you regain the intimacy.

How to treat low sex drive post-childbirth?

  • Address your worries with your partner.
  • Ask a professional for assistance and ask them to assist you in resolving problems relating to your waning sex drive.

Additionally, keep in mind that all bodies are beautiful and that there is nothing improper about how you appear after giving birth to a child.
