Fertility Show Africa 2022: Meet 10 of the many speakers

It’s national Fertility Awareness Week and what better way to raise awareness about infertility. Attend the free Fertility Show Africa taking place this weekend on 23 and 24 July at the Focus Rooms in Sandton, Johannesburg. If you aren’t in Gauteng this weekend – you can attend and participate online.

Attendees will listen to reputable speakers discuss different topics surrounding: infertility, age, fertility, PCOS and many other relevant topics. To know exactly who will be gracing this weekends forum, we have provided a list below.

Meet 10 of the many speakers featuring at Fertility Show Africa 2022

Mandy Rodrigues 

Topic: Preparing for IVF-treatment

Mandy Rodrigues is a renowned clinical psychologist who has worked in the field of infertility for the past 25 years. She has worked with individuals, couples and groups to help them cope with their fertility journey. A large part of her practice involves stress management and the need for a multi-disciplinary approach to infertility. Mandy has presented and published various books and articles on the subject.

Dr Wanjiru Ndigwa 

Topic: Age and Fertility 

Dr Ndigwa is currently the lead fertility specialist at the Footsteps to Fertility Centre in Nairobi. She is board-certified in reproductive endocrinology and fertility. She sits on the boards of African Federation of Fertility Societies, Kenya Society of Endoscopic Surgery, and Fertility and Andrology Society of Kenya. Dr Ndigwa is passionate about helping couples build their families. 

Kelly Loggenberg 

Topic: Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT): The different options explained 

Kelly Loggenberg completed a Master’s degree in Genetic Counselling at the University of Cape Town. She gained registration with the HPCSA and worked for the NHLS before moving to London in 2008 where she spent 10 years working as a genetic counsellor in both research and clinical settings within the NHLS. Kelly is taking a holistic view to patient care and believes there is significant value to a multidisciplinary approach, which empowers patients to make decisions in keeping with their beliefs. 

Dr Razina Patel 

Topic: Social Egg Freezing – The process 

Dr Razina Patel has followed her calling to specialise in obstetrics and gynaecology. She qualified in 1998 and worked in an academic capacity at the Johannesburg General Hospital and Bedfordview Hospital, as well as Park Lane Hospital as an obstetrician gynaecologist for more than 20 years.

Dr Victor Hulme 

Topic: Premature & low ovarian reserve: What it is

Dr Victor Hulme is a co-director and fertility specialist at Aevitas Fertility Clinic, with a special interest in egg freezing. After qualifying as an obstetrician and gynaecologist, he completed his two-year fellowship as a fertility specialist through the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Fertility Clinic, Tygerberg Hospital. 

Dr Kelly Owen 

Topic: The invisible loss of a negative pregnancy result 

Dr Kelly Owen is a clinical psychologist. Through her own journey with fertility difficulties, Dr Owen started working in this field 15 years ago. Her specific interest is the severe impact that infertility has on the mental health of couples and individuals. 

Erica Hoke 

Topic: Infertility Success despite low odds 

Erica Hoke has struggling with: undiagnosed endometriosis, uterine fibroids, PCOS, thyroid disease, factor 5 Leiden and MTHFR, for years. Unable to participate in traditional IUI or IVF methods, she saw positive effects on her infertility issues via continual changes to her diet and lifestyle. Dissatisfied with the way reproductive endocrinology (REI) medicine handles common infertility issues, Erika is determined to disrupt the reproductive medical system. Empowering infertility patients by creating a standard of care and testing path through which to collaborate and coordinate with their doctors, has become her mission. 

Dr Rizwana Roomaney 

Topic: PCOS and womanhood 

Dr Rizwana Roomaney is a research psychologist, registered counsellor and lecturer in the psychology department at Stellenbosch University. Her work is focused on women’s health and located in the field of health psychology. She is the national delegate for South Africa at the European Health Psychology Society and leads the local health psychology special interest group at the Psychological Society of South Africa. She currently holds a research grant to explore well-being among people seeking fertility treatment in South Africa. 

Professor Zozo Nene 

Topic: Endometriosis and PCOS – Female Fertility 

Professor Zozo Nene is a reproductive medicine specialist, obstetrician and gynaecologist. She is Head of the Reproductive and Endocrine Unit at Steve Biko Academic Hospital and the University of Pretoria. She chairs the reproductive medicine sub-specialist committee at the College of Medicine of South Africa, and is the lead author of the SA National guidelines of safe conception and infertility. Professor Nene is a South African representative of WHO-FIGO collaboration on contraception and has given presentations for the WHO in that capacity.

Dr Qinisile Diale 

Topic: Before saying “I do” (IVF). Self-preparation to increase pregnancy success 

Dr Qinisile Diale – also known as Dr Q, is a fertility specialist as well as founder and CEO of Family Matters Fertility Centre based at Netcare Unitas Hospital in Centurion. She qualified through the University of Pretoria, where she later worked as a senior lecturer. Dr Q is passionate about the education and assistance of couples who struggle with infertility.
