Your 20s are a great time to explore, have fun, and get out there. While some 20-year-olds may be struggling financially, unfortunately, the economy isn’t as great as it should be either.

Here is a list of a few fun, budget-friendly activities to try on your own and even in a group setting.

Budget-friendly activities for people in their 20s

1. Enjoy the movies

If you love the cinema, local movie houses have you covered. Granted, the average movie ticket and snacks are pricey, but some cinemas have come up with more budget-friendly options.

The throwback cinema option replays some of your favourite movies for only R50. You get to rewatch beloved movies and experience them again, or even experience them for the first time in the cinema, for half the price of the average movie ticket.

2. Visit the planetarium

For people in Gauteng, the Wits Digital Dome hosts interstellar shows and lectures that teach guests about the worlds around us and the universe we live in. The tickets range from R45-R75. It is a fun and unique way to spend the day or night with friends and family.

3. Explore the outdoors with a hike

There are gorgeous trails all around the country that are free to access, much like the Hannops Hiking Trail and MTB Trail in Pretoria, Table Mountain National Park in Cape Town, and the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park in KwaZulu-Natal.

There are a few free hiking trails in every city that one can find with a quick Google search.

4. Add colour to your picnic

Bring along a colouring book with a few snacks and play some lovely music at your next picnic. You can do this alone or with a group of friends. Colouring books range between R20 and R150 depending on where you buy them and the quality you want.

5. Presentation nights

A get-together with friends can include presenting ideas, thoughts and theories in a PowerPoint format. All that is needed are a few snacks and a neutral venue (preferably a friend’s house).
