Out with the old and in with the new – one of South African motorist’s most preferred bakkies the Toyota Hilux has now introduced its brand-new Toyota Hilux Legend 55.

For years local motorists have opted for this high luxury bakkie because of its elevated height, wide exterior, and the durability and reliability that allows it to drive through some of the most challenging off-road terrain.

This has ultimately seen it becoming the go-to vehicle for many outdoor enthusiasts, farmers, or even those who simply wish to enjoy the luxury that this vehicle presents.

Meanwhile, Hilux fanatics would be thrilled to find out that the brand-new version of the bakkie, the Toyota Hilux Legend 55, will soon make its way to South African shores.

This was confirmed by the automotive company, Cars. The news was shared at the Japanese firm’s 2025 State of the Motor Industry (SOMI) address at Kyalami in Johannesburg where it was announced that it is set to launch as the 5th limited-edition model in this SA-specific quinquennial tradition.

This new version of the bakkie is expected to be released in local dealerships in July 2025.

News publication, TimesLive, reports that there are several adjustments made to the exterior of the bakkie.

Some of these include, “An upgraded with a wide body and wide tread suspension, a Legend 55 styling kit, roller shutter, bash plate, tow bar, rubberised load area, and newly designed styling bar.”

This is also available in the form of a double cab, which means there is tons of space for a family of four to five.
