When it comes to weight loss, the humble tofu might not be the first thing that springs to mind, but maybe it should be. Packed with protein, low in calories, and endlessly versatile, tofu is a powerhouse food that fits perfectly into any weight-loss plan.

Whether you’re grilling it, blending it, or tossing it into a stir-fry, this plant-based wonder is here to satisfy your cravings without tipping the scale. Let’s find out how.

Tofu, a soy-based, protein-rich food, is popular among vegetarians and health-conscious individuals due to its high protein content and essential nutrients like calcium and iron, states HealthShots. It is said to be made by curdling soy milk and pressing it into solid blocks, similar to cheese-making.

“It is popular in many cuisines, particularly in Asian cooking, and is loved for its versatility. It can be prepared in a variety of ways, such as frying, steaming, baking, or blending, and easily absorbs the flavours of the ingredients it is cooked with.”

The publication above further explains that tofu is low in calories, with 94 calories per 100 grams, and high in protein, which helps with calorie burn and helps feel full longer. Additionally, tofu is claimed to contain isoflavones, plant compounds that may help regulate fat metabolism and reduce body fat, especially in overweight individuals.

According to Only My Health, tofu has a higher thermic effect and heart-healthy unsaturated fats contribute to a satisfying meal. Tofu’s versatility in various cuisines is claimed to allow for healthier choices in high-calorie proteins and it also offers a balanced nutrient profile, including iron, calcium, and magnesium.
