Keep your circle healthy and thriving

by Akhona Ndlela

Maintaining your family’s health can seem like just another task on an already full plate, between weekend errands, work emails, school runs, and everything else.

However, creating a successful home doesn’t require strict routines or costly health tips; frequently, the little, regular decisions have the greatest impact.

Avoiding sick days is only one aspect of a healthy family. It’s about establishing a space where everyone, from young children to elderly people, feels uplifted, encouraged, and taken care of on the inside and out.

The Mayo Clinic claims that adding exercise to your family’s daily routine, finding joy in laughter, spending time with loved ones, kicking addictions, reducing stress through yoga or deep breathing, and expressing gratitude by setting up a gratitude jar and encouraging everyone to place a note in it every day are all ways to build strength. Limit screen time, restrict screen time after homework and chores, and promote thankfulness by recognising suffering during trying times.

“Offer fruits and vegetables at every meal. Don’t force kids to eat the fruit and veggies, but have them available. Be sure to model healthy eating. Your kids are watching,” the above clinic further adds.

According to the American Heart Association, select two 30- and 60-minute time slots during the week and on the weekends for 60-minute activities to enhance family time. Simplify your family’s schedule, plan a weekly menu and prepare meals, and take small steps to make sure everyone in your home is healthy.

The association mentioned above further highlights that for healthy preparation, keep track of food grabs and use shelf-stable foods. Set priorities for your activities and control your stress levels to keep up a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
