How to relief stiff neck pain

by Sergio Miller

Waking up with excruciating pain on one side of your neck can be unbearable and significantly impact your daily life.

It is crucial to understand that a stiff neck can be caused by multiple factors, including poor sleeping positions, physical activities or sports like rugby, or sudden movements of the neck.

However, with the proper knowledge and remedies, you can overcome this discomfort and prevent it from recurring.

Don’t let a stiff neck bring you down; take charge of your health and well-being by seeking the right solutions and regaining in control of your life.

Below are some easy movement exercises that will help lessen the amount of pain you feel.

Neck Rotation

One way of ensuring that you get a decent stretch is by trying the rotation neck exercise. The movement involves slowly rotating your neck to the right, glancing over your shoulder for 30 seconds and moving into the opposite direction.

For effective results, it is best that you repeat these 3 to 4 times.

Neck flex

Gradually lower the chin toward the chest and look downward while only moving the head. Once the head has been flexed forward as far as it can comfortably go, hold the stretch for 5 seconds before returning to neutral position.

According to expert medical publication Spine Health, this neck movement produces a stretch that is felt throughout the back of the neck.

Lateral neck Flex

The lateral neck flex is another useful exercise recommended by Spine Health to overcome stiffness.

The exercise is relatively simple and involves holding your head in a neutral position, before moving it all the way to the right until your ear touches the shoulder and holding for 30 seconds. Once complete, resume to a neutral position and attempt to do it in the opposite direction.
