Do teeth whitening strips really work?

For people who want to brighten their smiles without the inconvenience of getting professional treatments, teeth whitening strips have become a popular choice.

They might not work as well on deeper discolourations, but they can aid in removing superficial stains. Therefore, they are worth a try if you are looking for a quick remedy.

Medical News Today claims, “Teeth can be an important part of a person’s self-image. Inevitably, teeth begin to yellow with age, but people can use various techniques to slow the process. Among these techniques are whitening strips, which people can purchase over the counter (OTC) and use to help remove stains and whiten teeth.”

Individuals physically apply teeth-whitening strips to their teeth. The American Dental Association (ADA) claims that if the strips have the ADA seal of acceptance, they are safe and effective even when they contain chemicals like hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide.

However, using any whitening product can have negative consequences on individuals, the above health news publication adds.

According to the health-focused publication Healthline, “Whitening strips can target both types of stains. Stains caused by ageing, genetics, smoking, or coffee are generally the fastest to respond to bleaching. Yellowish ageing stains also respond well.”

You might want to think about getting professional teeth whitening from a dentist for more noticeable results. A dentist can provide you with a treatment that is tailored to your needs and makes use of stronger bleaches, the above-mentioned health hub further explains.
