Your guide to pulling off pinstripes is here

Pinstripes are set to be one of the year’s hottest fashion hits. Follow these tips to nail the look and rock it perfectly. They’re chic, classic and figure flattering too, making them a style win all-round. This season they’re on trend. We’re talking pinstripes of course!

Here’s your guide to pulling off pinstripes:

1. What’s the deal with pinstripes? The pinstripe pattern usually features vertical stripes (usually black or white) on a coloured background. The colour palette is typically a pairing of neutral hues like blue and white, black and white or grey and white. In addition, the stripe is generally thin, hence the term pinstripe. This iconic print has been around for many decades often favoured on menswear – especially suits.

2. Separates are key. The pinstripe print is usually found on a more structured and tailored piece adding an overall classic flair to your look. However, pinstriped suits are outdated and this season sees separates emerge as key for the trend. Good choices include tailored trousers, structured blazers, A-line dresses and pencil skirts. Soften the look by adding shirts and blouses that feature the print.

3. Pick the right pieces.

For a chic new spin on the pinstripe suit, go for high-fashion pieces that will add a lift to your outfit. The idea is to pick a pinstriped piece as a focal point. For example, black pinstriped high-waisted trousers paired with a crisp white blouse will define your waist and create an effortless look. You can polish up your outfit with a pair of black heels and a structured handbag, or dress the trousers down with a t-shirt, takkies and a denim jacket. If you’re unsure of how to wear the trend, opt for a pinstripe jacket, as it can be worn with just about anything.
