They say your hair is your crown, and you should embrace it, as it often tells a unique story. From installing wigs to having protective hairstyles, not many people talk about the self-love that comes with loving your natural hair.

If you ask me, depending on what type of hair you have you may find yourself having to spend more on haircare products, but worry not as these tips will have you wanting to venture into learning more about your natural hair.

According to Medium, one of the factors that usually cause many of us to go natural is the fact that chemicals damage our scalps or the fact that tight protective hairstyles make your edges not grow again as your hairline might have been pulled back.

From dealing with the amount of shrinkage to having to constantly relax your hair, it can just be too daunting.

  • Know your hair type: Many beauty brands have products that are suitable for certain hair types and understanding what category you fall under will help you in terms of hair growth and your hair getting enough moisturise. It is also important to note other things like scalp type, density, width etc.
  • Find your community: In this supportive community, you can share hair care tips, discuss the challenges of your hair journey, and offer words of encouragement. Thrifts and Tangles advises going to streaming platforms such as  YouTube to host a wonderful online natural hair community.
  • Start small: When purchasing your haircare items start off using testers before committing to using those products. PRO TIP: Always ask the beauty consultants for what products you need to get.
