A devoted supporter of Nigerian televangelist Timothy Omotoso was overcome with emotion after learning about his recent arrest.
In a heartfelt social media post, the woman, identified as Grace Mgwalazi from eMlazi, KwaZulu-Natal, expressed her devastation and pleaded to take Omotoso’s place in jail.
Grace Mgwalazi’s emotional appeal highlighted the strong bond between Omotoso and his supporters. She questioned the authorities’ actions, asking, “South Africa, what have you done to the Lord’s prophet, Timothy Omotoso? What has he ever done to you?” Her words conveyed a deep sense of loyalty and admiration for the televangelist.
In her impassioned plea, Grace Mgwalazi offered to surrender herself to the authorities, saying, “Arrest me, I am handing myself over so that you can free him. Take me instead.” She even provided her name and location, stating that she would not resist arrest, in the hopes that Omotoso would be released.

This reaction from Grace Mgwalazi is particularly notable given the controversy surrounding Omotoso’s case. The televangelist was acquitted of serious charges, including rape, human trafficking, and racketeering, in April, which led to jubilant celebrations among his supporters in the Eastern Cape. However, his recent arrest on immigration charges has sparked a new wave of debate and outrage.
Meanwhile, church leaders in East London have taken a different stance, standing behind the women who testified against Omotoso.
They organised a march on Sunday to submit a memorandum demanding Omotoso’s deportation from South Africa. The Department of Home Affairs had previously ruled that Omotoso is a prohibited person, and his appeal against the decision was rejected.
The contrasting reactions to Omotoso’s arrest highlight the polarized views surrounding his case. While some, like Grace Mgwalazi, remain fiercely loyal, others are adamant that he should face the consequences of his actions.
