‘The judiciary system of South Africa has shown loopholes’ – Ngizwe Mchunu reacts to Malema case

by Zintle Mdaka

Media personality Ngizwe Mchunu recently started a heated debate surrounding the immediate appeal and release of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema.

This is after Julius, who faced numerous charges, was sentenced to five years direct imprisonment for discharging a firearm in a public space. This charge stems from 2018 when the party was celebrating five years at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane.

Ngizwe took to his TikTok page to share that he is not happy with the South African judiciary system, citing that it has displayed its loopholes.

“Fellow South African, I want to quickly share the truth. The judiciary system of South Africa has compromised us, and have shown some loopholes regarding the matter of Julius Malema. Julius Sello Malema was sentenced five years direct imprisonment, with an option of a fine for other counts of sentencing.

“That alone has shown clearly that indeed Julius fired the firearm in front of people, while he was under the influence of alcohol. On top of that, he did not respect the community members of Eastern Cape and the firearm laws of South Africa,” said Ngizwe.

In his video clip, the Bhinca podcaster posed a question to the the Minister of Justice in South Africa: “Why is it that the prison cells are filled with first offenders who also wish to appeal their charges but are never given an opportunity?”

He also asked what kind of appeal Julius got that made him to not even spend a night in jail, while the former president Jacob Zuma slept in jail. The former Ukhozi FM presenter concluded with warning that the case could set a dangerous precedent if justice is seen as unequal.

“South Africans must not feel like the law depends on who you are and where you come from,” he said.
