Social media platforms were lit the past weekend as many were keen to see what their favourite celebrities wore to this year’s Hollywoodbets Durban July.

The event which sees around 60 000 people gathering at Durban’s Greyville racecourse is always among the most talked about social events in mzansi.

Even though this is a horse racing event, this is also an event that sees fashion designers showcase their creativity by creating garments that reflect the theme. While some killed the Ride the Wave theme, others fell short including South Africa’s most loved singer, Makhadzi.

The singer whose career has seen her internationally recognised after she won the Best New International Act at this year’s BET Awards, was counted among the worst-dressed celebrities at this year’s Durban July event.

It later emerged that the Movie hitmaker was aware that she missed the mark as she took to her social media platforms to acknowledge her disastrous outfit.

In a humorous post on her Instagram, Makhadzi detailed that she did not plan for the Durban July event and had to make arrangements last minute. Sharing what was on her mind as she had the blue curvy dress on, the singer detailed, “I am like, I think I was supposed to pose like this and post, no one was gonna notice the curves. Because wooow these curves are not curving, when I get to Johannesburg kenyaka oloma designer (I want to bite the designer), designer khavhe akho relocater shem (the designer had better relocate).”

Addressing her friend who co-ordinated her photo shoot she added, “Zonzo my brother you tried to show me some poses you were scared to tell me this dress is not dressing.”

Taking time to apologise to her designer for putting pressure last minute as she needed a dress for the event, Makhadzi shared that she made no plans for the Durban July as she thought she’d still be in America for another week.

“I thought I would stay in America for a week, I had to change my mind because there’s no pap and I couldn’t survive,” added Makhadzi.

The Limpopo-born singer also made sure to market her one-woman show which will take place on the 21st of December at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
