Media personalities Thando Thabethe and Robert Marawa looked quite cosy while attending the Hollywoodbets Durban July, further fuelling rumours of a romantic link. The star clapped back at those who had something to say about the pair’s 17-year age gap.

On 5 July 2026, a day after the star-studded horse-racing event, X user @AladyPL shared a picture of Thabethe sitting on Marawa’s lap, with Thabethe’s hands firmly planted on Marawa’s knees.

“Oh, I love them,” wrote the social media user.

Another X user, @hlaoivan, wasted no time spreading negativity, writing, “53 dating le 1991! Yeah, no, you’re only a paedophile when you’re broke.”

Seeing the comment, Thabethe, with class, corrected the internet user, noting that she was born in 1991.

Thando Thabethe hits back at the haters

While Thabethe, born 18 June 1990, and Marawa, born 1 March 1973, have not officially confirmed a romantic relationship, the How to Ruin Christmas actress took time to respond to those who reacted negatively to her and Marawa’s age gap.

After @ELLOSYL pointed out the nearly two decades between the two radio presenters, Thabethe took a screenshot of their picture and wrote, “You look like an Uber driver on an 18-year parole! Let’s meet at Grayston McDonald’s at 17h30 tomorrow. If you can’t send your dodgy relatives.”

The X user responded, “I won’t waste my breath on a wh*re, I have a World Cup match to watch,” to which Thabethe replied, “You and your 94 followers look like one!”

Thabethe took a swipe at another social media user, who told her that Marawa was old enough to be her father. She asked the individual if they knew their father, which they confirmed with a laugh, prompting her response:

“Gracefully…focus on your relationship with him. Leave me alone.”
