After nearly a decade away from releasing a solo project, South African singer-songwriter Bathabise Biyela-Vokwana, popularly known as Thabsie, has officially returned to the music scene with her highly anticipated new EP, While You Wait.

The project marks Thabsie’s first body of work in nine years and signals a deeply personal and creative new chapter for the artist, who first captured the hearts of South Africans with her soulful voice and heartfelt storytelling.

A long-awaited return

For many fans, Thabsie’s return has been years in the making. The singer, known for hit songs such as African Queen and collaborations with some of South Africa’s biggest artists, stepped away from releasing a solo project while exploring other creative ventures and navigating her personal journey.

Now, with While You Wait, she says she is returning to what she considers her first love: music.

The title itself reflects a period of reflection, growth and patience — themes woven throughout the project.

A journey of self-discovery for Thabsie

Speaking about the EP, Thabsie has described the project as an honest reflection of her experiences over the past several years. Through the music, she explores themes of love, heartbreak, healing, uncertainty, and personal growth.

The singer’s signature blend of soulful melodies and emotional storytelling remains at the heart of the project, while also introducing listeners to a more mature and introspective version of the artist.

For Thabsie, the extended break from releasing music was not about stepping away from creativity but rather allowing herself space to evolve both personally and professionally.

Collaborations and new sounds

While You Wait also features collaborations that showcase Thabsie’s versatility and growth as an artist. Among the notable appearances is a collaboration with fellow South African musician Emtee, adding another dimension to the project.

The EP blends elements of R&B, soul and contemporary African sounds, creating a body of work that feels both familiar and refreshingly new.

Fans welcome Thabsie’s return

The announcement and release of While You Wait have been met with excitement from fans, many of whom have followed Thabsie’s career since her breakthrough years.

Social media has been flooded with messages celebrating her return, with listeners praising both her vocal performance and the project’s emotional honesty.

For many supporters, the nine-year wait has only heightened the significance of this moment.

A new chapter begins

With While You Wait, Thabsie is not simply making a comeback — she is introducing audiences to a new chapter of her artistic journey.

After years of growth, reflection, and anticipation, the singer’s return serves as a reminder that some stories unfold in their own time. And for Thabsie, it appears that the wait was worth it.
