South African media personality Somizi Mhlongo is venturing into the podcasting space with a new show that promises to draw from his years of experience in the entertainment industry and lessons from his personal journey.

Somizi recently announced Life Lessons with Somizi, a new podcast that will be available on YouTube. The announcement comes as the entertainer continues to explore new ways of connecting with audiences beyond traditional television and radio.

Sharing lessons from his journey

The podcast’s title suggests that Somizi will use the platform to reflect on the experiences that have shaped him throughout his life and career.

With decades in the public eye, Somizi has experienced the highs and lows of fame, from becoming a successful entertainer and broadcaster to navigating the pressures that come with wealth and public scrutiny.

His recent conversations have shown a more reflective side of the star. In July, Somizi opened up about the unexpected emotional cost of achieving financial success, saying he sometimes felt happier growing up with less.

A new space for honest conversations

The podcast could provide Somizi with an opportunity to have longer and more personal conversations than traditional entertainment formats allow.

Earlier this year, he appeared on 947’s Drive with Thando, where he spoke openly about his childhood, his parents’ support and how they helped him develop the confidence to pursue his ambitions.

His upcoming podcast therefore arrives at a time when audiences have increasingly seen him share more personal reflections about success, happiness, relationships and life.

Another chapter for Somizi

Podcasting marks another addition to Mhlongo’s already diverse career. He has worked as a dancer, choreographer, actor, singer, television personality and radio host, while remaining one of South Africa’s most recognisable entertainment figures.

The announcement of Life Lessons with Somizi comes as he continues to expand his media presence. Earlier this year, he was also announced as one of the guests on SABC 2’s Eintlek Let’s Connect, a talk show focused on everyday conversations and topical issues.

With Life Lessons with Somizi, the entertainer appears ready to put his experiences front and centre and give audiences another side of the personality they have watched for decades.
