The murder trial of former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa continues at the High Court in Pretoria, with proceedings entering another crucial phase as the defence presents evidence in the long-running case.

The five men accused of murdering Meyiwa remain before the court. They are Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Fisokuhle Ntuli. All five have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Meyiwa was shot and killed on 26 October 2014 at the home of singer Kelly Khumalo’s mother in Vosloorus, Gauteng. He was 27 years old when he died.
Defence evidence remains in focus
The State concluded its case in July 2025 after presenting evidence over an extended period.
According to SABC News, the defence subsequently began calling its witnesses, with the accused themselves becoming central to the proceedings. Recent proceedings have continued to examine evidence relating to the accused and the events surrounding Meyiwa’s death.
One of the latest developments involved Mthobisi Mncube, accused number three. During proceedings yesterday, 15 September 2026, Mncube told the court that he was with the late Fisokuhle Ntuli on the night Meyiwa was shot, according to SABC News‘ coverage of the hearing.
The court has also continued examining cellphone-related evidence. Earlier in September, an expert witness was expected to testify about cellphone records linked to accused number five, Ntuli.

The trial has faced numerous delays and procedural challenges since it began. The proceedings were restarted under Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng after Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela became ill and subsequently retired.
These recent proceedings form part of an effort to establish the competing versions of what happened before, during and after Meyiwa was fatally shot.
Proceedings continue
The Pretoria High Court remains the centre of the closely followed murder trial, with further defence evidence expected as the case progresses.
SABC News has continued providing live coverage of the proceedings, including hearings on 14 and 15 September 2026, while the trial remains ongoing.
No final judgment has been delivered, and the five accused remain presumed innocent unless and until the court finds otherwise.
