Scorpion Kings’ security ‘triggers’ fans
TikTok content creator @alpharoyce_, who attended the Scorpion Kings event, shared a video expressing her anger at the government over its carelessness regarding women’s safety in the country. In light of the recent discovery of the nine bodies in the Ekurhuleni area, the woman shared how her experience at the concert triggered her and made her feel disappointed in the government.
The online user described the contrast in safety at the concert compared to everyday life.
“You can tell that they really put in an effort to make sure that people felt safe when they were going home,” she said. “Yet right now, in Kempton Park at night, the streets are dark… There’s no police visibility.”
The content creator felt that event coordinators were more intentional about the safety of women than the government was. Discourse ensued in the comment section of the creator’s video.

Insightful conversations
Social media users shared their own sentiments around what @alpharoyce_ had to say. Many agreed, while others posed an argument that it should be expected that events provide that level of security, considering people pay to go and enjoy them safely.
Yet a rebuttal was made, where commentators pointed out that taxes are paid for a reason. An insightful discussion was had where commentators shared anecdotes confirming the woman’s claims that street lights weren’t working, and others asked what more the government should offer in terms of safety.
