Rising star Lelow B explores love and commitment with her song ‘Imizwa’

Emerging South African singer-songwriter Lelow B is exploring what it means to choose love even when a relationship becomes difficult, with her song Imizwa placing loyalty, commitment and sacrifice at the centre of its message.

The track features Nvcho, Zuma, Da Ish and Soulful G, bringing together different musical styles while telling one story about two people determined to stand by each other despite the challenges they face.

For Lelow B, whose real name is Nompumelelo Buthelezi, the song reflects a side of love that is not always captured in romantic music: the decisions and sacrifices that come with building a relationship.

Lelow B looks beyond the romance in Imizwa

While many love songs celebrate the excitement of being together, Imizwa, released on 16 September 2026, considers what happens when things do not go according to plan.

The song explores a relationship in which both partners are prepared to make sacrifices for each other, even when family expectations and difficult circumstances complicate their choices.

“I think what makes Imizwa special is that it looks at love beyond just the beautiful moments,” Lelow B told BONA.

For the singer, genuine commitment is about more than expressing affection. It also means showing up when a relationship is tested and being willing to put in the effort required to make it work.

“It is not just about telling someone you love them; it is about showing that love through your actions and your commitment.”

It is this focus on the less glamorous side of relationships that gives the song its central message, inviting listeners to reflect on what they are willing to do for the people they love.

A collaboration with a shared message

With the featured artists, Imizwa brings different artists together around a common theme.

Lelow B says she wanted each collaborator to contribute their own musical character without taking away from the emotion behind the song.

“For me, collaborations are about more than just having different artists on one record,” she explains. “It is about what each person brings to the music and how those contributions come together to create something that people can enjoy.”

The result reflects her interest in combining sounds while keeping storytelling at the heart of her work.

From Ladysmith to the music scene

Originally from Peacetown in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal, Lelow B discovered her passion for music in 2014. Her sound draws on Afro-soul, R&B and House, with songwriting giving her a way to explore emotions and experiences that people may struggle to express.

She says releasing music also allows listeners to connect with a song through their own experiences, giving it meaning beyond the circumstances that inspired its creation.

Looking ahead, the singer wants to expand her audience, explore new sounds and work with more artists. She is also keen to connect with listeners through live performances.

“I want people to get to know me and my music beyond just one song.”

As she continues building her career, Imizwa offers an introduction to an artist interested in telling relatable stories about love, life and the choices that shape relationships.
