The Springboks as a whole have become quite the national treasure, however Retshegofaditswe ‘Tshego’ Nché, who is more commonly referred to as Ox Nché is one player who made a name for himself, particularly during the 2023 Rugby World Cup with his impressive performance, following the retirement of legend Tendai Mtawarira.

As a loosehead prop, Ox is known for his unrelenting and vigorous power on the field and is specifically known for his ability to dominate his opponents during the scrum. His powerful performance led to questions about his diet and lifestyle, to which he responded with the phrase he has since coined “Salads don’t win scrums.”

In his latest venture, Ox has been named Dove Men+Care‘s new “Champion of Care”, where he is set to transform the narrative of what self-care and care in general looks like.

“Please join me, as we wage zero-tolerance against anything that gets in the way of self-care and care of others, danko,” he says in the brand’s campaign.

This partnership is an exciting one for many South Africans, as they get to see Ox’s personality off the pitch shine a bit more. Previously, the athlete had expressed how he is generally perceived as quite a serious individual, whereas those who know him are familiar with his laid-back and humorous nature.

“People get shocked when they get to see me and realise, I actually have a pretty unique sense of humour,” he said during a post-game conference.
