‘No AFCON, no Grammy’ – South Africans troll Nigerians on social media

If there is one thing about South African social media users, they will humble you by reminding you of your losses.

After Nigeria failed to retrieve the title of ‘AFCON champions’ following their finals match against Côte d’Ivoire, South Africans on social media took it upon themselves to remind the rival country of their other missed opportunities.

Nigerians on X (formerly Twitter) first started trolling South Africans after Bafana Bafana was knocked out of the finals by the country during an intense semi-final match. Nigeria won in a penalty shootout of 4-2 against the boys which resulted in the rivals heading to the finals. As a playful diss to mzansi and rubbing salt in the wounds, Nigerians posted videos of themselves celebrating to Tyla’s Grammy-winning hit, Water.

Unfortunately for them, their victory against South Africa did not have them seeing gold at the end.

AFCON winners Côte d’Ivoire obtained a 2-1 victory against Nigeria’s Super Eagles with the cherry on top being that they won the cup in their home country.

South African X users saw this as an opportunity to troll Nigerians about their losses. Check out some of the hilarious posts below.
