For the talented actress, landing another major role so soon after winning her first SA Film and Television Award (SAFTA) is a moment of gratitude. Speaking to Sowetan S Mag, she said the opportunity is especially meaningful in an industry where actors often face uncertainty between productions.

Meet Phiwe

Phiwe is a police officer and a devoted first-born daughter who carries significant responsibility for her family. The character resonates with Nelisiwe, who says she understands the pressure often placed on first-born daughters to become ‘deputy parents.’

The role also allows her to explore a profession she has not portrayed before. As reported by Sowetan S Mag, she has previously played characters including a doctor, lawyer, cook and businesswoman, highlighting her versatility as a performer.

Phiwe is left with a secret that she must protect from her family and colleagues. Her secret also attracts the attention of township matriarch Mazwi Mhlongo, played by Winnie Ntshaba. Mazwi sees an opportunity to use the secret to her advantage.

The series also features several other talented thespians including Themba Ndaba as Melusi and Jo-Anne Reyneke as Thembi.

Sphelele Luthuli also stars as Khwezi, Mbali Ngiba as Gog’Sindi, Kenneth Nkosi as Pastor Caiphus and Gcinile Nkosi as Mam’Dee.

Nelisiwe Sibiya: a versatile performer

Also a musician, Nelisiwe Sibiya has won many hearts across Mzansi with her multiple talents.  After taking a five-year break from music to focus on acting, the artist expressed that she plans to return to the studio.

For now, Land of Mills and Money marks another opportunity for her to demonstrate that her talents extend far beyond her music career.

Her message is clear: versatility matters, and she is determined to keep challenging herself with every new role.
