Married At First Sight’s Makoto Phumodi spills tea

Is it really over between Married At First Sight stars, Makoto Phumodi and Nkululeko Mahlangu?

The couple, who had not seen eye-to-eye since they exchanged vows at the altar, recently shocked viewers when they agreed that they should call it quits because their union is not working.

It was when the show introduced a dynamic of husbands visiting their in-laws that Nkululeko dropped the bomb. He revealed to his wife that he does not feel comfortable with going to her house, because they are in a bad space.

The second season of the show has kept many viewers entertained and glued to their screens with explosive drama.

The former Champions actress recently opened up about her husband, marriage and her time on the show. She shared that she joined the show because she wanted to try an unconventional path.

“I wanted to try something different. I wanted to look for love in an unconventional way.”

The show is set against the backdrop of four couples, each with their own unique set of challenges. The couples join the show as singles and are paired by experts based on their personalities and other factors. They meet their partners at the altar for the first time, and proceed with their marriage.

She said: “When I first saw him, I was like: ‘I’ve seen this face before.’ We had seen each other in the past, and that was interesting to me because I did not know what to expect.”

Makoto shared that she had mentally prepared for the show before entering. “By simply being open to the unknown. That is all you can do. There is no manual for the experiment,” she said.

“The fight started when he said I must leave my church and serve at his church, so by the time he started being hyper-religious on screen, I was already upset. The Bible says a man must provide and a woman must submit, right? Imagine being asked if you’re willing to submit, but you don’t know if the guy is willing to provide emotionally, financially, mentally or physically, so I was taken aback by that. However, as you have seen, we moved past that,” she said.

Makoto and Nkululeko caught the attention of viewers with their differences on intimacy. Shedding light on that, she said: “Intimacy is important to me. If we can’t connect emotionally, it won’t work. My husband didn’t believe in foreplay or kissing when we first met so those are the things we had to learn about each other and overcome.”
