Layla Kolbe has turned to faith and prayer as her husband, Springbok star Cheslin Kolbe, begins his recovery from a broken jaw.

Cheslin suffered the injury during the Springboks’ 29-24 victory over the All Blacks at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday, 5 September. He was forced from the field in the ninth minute after taking a heavy knock during a tackle, and Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus later confirmed that the 32-year-old had broken his jaw.

Following the injury, Layla shared photographs from Cheslin’s hospital stay, including a picture of herself beside the rugby star. She accompanied the images with an emotional message about the difficult period facing their family.

Layla Kolbe turns to prayer

In her Instagram post, Layla said she did not want to reveal too much about the situation but made it clear that the family was relying heavily on their faith.

“The enemy is definitely working overtime, and we rebuke and cancel it in Jesus’ name,” she penned.

“We serve a mighty, miracle-working God who is greater than anything that comes against us. So today we speak the blood of Jesus over Cheslin, his body, his recovery and our family. We declare protection, healing, restoration and strength over him. What the enemy meant for harm, God can turn for good. We choose faith over fear. Always.

“And in the middle of it all, I couldn’t be prouder of Kylah and her girls for pushing through such a long day and claiming the win to end off her dance season for the year. And to the Bokke, they always seem to fight even harder when they’re thrown into the deep end. What a team. What a fight. God is good. Always,” said Layla.

Her message comes after an already challenging period for the Springboks, who have dealt with injury concerns during the current Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry Test series against New Zealand.

Cheslin had previously been forced off during South Africa’s opening Test against the All Blacks before returning for the second match in Cape Town. He produced a standout performance in that 33-26 victory, kicking all four penalties and three conversions, reported IOL.

However, his latest injury means he will miss the fourth and final Test against New Zealand in Baltimore, United States.

Cheslin Kolbe thanks his wife and fans

Cheslin has also acknowledged the support he has received since the injury.

In a message shared from hospital, the rugby star thanked fans for their messages and specifically expressed his appreciation to Layla for travelling to Johannesburg to be by his side.

He ended his message by putting his recovery and the Springboks in God’s hands. For now, the focus remains on Cheslin’s recovery as he faces a period on the sidelines.

For Layla, however, faith remains at the centre of the family’s response.
