In a freestyle, the TV personality revisited her past in the music industry, reminding fans she’s still got it.

Khanyi Mbau freestyles in Metro

The actress was recently unmasked as Chopsticks on the season finale of the singing competition and appeared on the radio station to unpack that experience. A clip from the radio show has been going viral, featuring Khanyi freestyling and putting on a memorable performance.

Khanyi has a long history in the music industry outside of her recent appearances on The Masked Singer South Africa. The 40-year-old reality TV star released a few songs throughout her career. She has an established discography, including features with Moozlie, Nokwazi, and Fifi Cooper.

Though usually roasted for her first few releases earlier in her career, like Dunusa and Igwinya, Khanyi is not new to the mic. The freestyle is very 90s hip-hop era-coded, with her flow reminiscent of Queen Latifah and TLC’s Left Eye. Judith backed Khanyi’s rap with her meticulous vocals.

“She’s just having fun”

The freestyle was not well-received throughout, with many thoroughly unimpressed by her skills, some claiming that she is a bit too old for hip-hop and others simply believing that she could’ve done better.

However, some were impressed, taking into consideration the fact that she is not a professional rapper.

“She’s just having fun, relax, guys,” a commenter wrote. Acknowledging the light-hearted moment for what it was.
