While many are well familiar with the global pop icon Tyla and her younger sister Sydney Seethal, many internet users were shocked to discover that the pair have an older sister who silently has been doing great things in the medical world as an audiologist.
In honour of World Audiologist Day earlier this month the 25-year-old, whose name is Whitney Jasmin, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a post of herself in her workspace.
In the caption, she wrote: “Giving people back their ability to hear, so they can listen to my sister’s music.”

While many might find it strange that Whitney has a surname different from that of her siblings, she recently shared a “Get ready with me” video on TikTok highlighting that she uses her mother who is of Mauritian descent’s maiden surname.
Like Tyla, Whitney too was born and raised in Johannesburg where her family continues to live. However, she explained that after graduating from the University of Witwatersrand, she has had to relocate to KwaZulu-Natal where she is currently completing her community service.
Despite having a huge online presence on nearly every social media platform, she described herself as being a shy person who grew up enjoying reading books.
“I grew up as a bookworm, but not in the sense of reading novels. I always liked educational books, science books, medical books and all of that,” she revealed.
Because of this, Whitney highlighted that she always grew up thinking she would become an astronomer and work for NASA.
Earlier this year, she made an appearance in Tyla’s Jump music video which was shot in their hometown of Johannesburg.
