South African rapper IFani recently shared some of the reasons why he decided to leave the music industry at the peak of his career.
Following an interview on The Hustler’s Corner SA with DJ Sbu, he opened up about some key factors that played a role in him stepping back from his career.
The 37-year-old Mthatha-born hip-hop/rap artist is best known for his hits titled Shake, Chocolate & Vanilla, Ewe, and several others. According to the South African, the talented musician went on hiatus for nearly six years due to immense pressure from the music industry and other personal reasons.
During the interview with DJ Sbu, IFani revealed that he didn’t intentionally take a break from music and that “life just happened.” He also further revealed that he had been clashing with late rapper AKA, who was killed in Durban earlier this year.
At the peak of his music career, the late rappers AKA, HHP, ProKid, and Khuli Chana were the top dogs in the rap game, IFani recalled. He stated that him and AKA didn’t get along as the late rapper supposedly felt intimidated by him music-wise.
“That thing really got me confused. It got me lost as an artist and as a human being… that wasn’t the only thing, that was just the straw that broke the camel’s back,” he said.
The musician didn’t go too into detail regarding his relationship with the late rapper. DJ Sbu also stepped in, saying that it wouldn’t be wise to speak ill of someone who has passed and cannot defend themselves.
